Starter pack
Start taking notes of what you've seen and like and collect photos and articles of landscaping ideas you'd like to use. Talk to your friends who've recently had work done and discuss their experiences. Make an obligation free appointment for a landscape designer & contractor to visit you and your site. Ask your prospective contractors to show you their previous work with onsite visits and photos. Weigh up different product options - don't be confused by GST exclusive pricing vs. GST inclusive pricing, charges per square metre vs. charges per hour, buying direct from wholesalers vs. buying a whole package through one company!

Larger pavers give the appearance of larger areas
When paving a small patio or courtyard, the use of larger pavers, say 600x600, gives the appearance of a larger area by making the area less busy. It is the grout lines between each paver which make an area look busy and cluttered, therefore, bringing an area in.

Pricing rule of thumb
When selecting a paver size, keep in mind that the square metre pricing goes down when the paver size goes up. However, this rule doesn't work when you choose outside the standard sizes.

Which texture is best for you?
Various factors such as area purpose, slope, sun exposure, family activities, wet areas and personal preference will dictate the best texture for a given area. Jagas offers four standard textures to choose from... smooth, etched, weathered and exposed aggregate finish. To best ascertain what kind of surface is going to suit you and your outdoor setting, a visit to our yard is best! That way, you can test drive (even take your shoes off, if you like) and walk on the different textures available and decide for yourself. If you can't get to East Tamaki, call us or email us and we will courier you some free samples so you can decide in your own home.

Saving money
Keep with standard colours... If you want to keep extra spending to a minimum, choose a colour from our popular colour range. Otherwise, take advantage of our custom colouring service.

Different textures have different pricing
Different textures have different pricing... The rougher the texture, the more you can expect to pay. You can save by choosing the smooth finish, which is the best price per square metre and later on, if you decide this finish is too smooth for you, you can get your paving acid etched by a qualified tradesperson. Acid etching will slightly roughen the finish of the pavers to give a non-slip texture.

Don't skimp on contractors
So often we see customers choosing the cheapest contractor to lay their products, which inevitably turns into problems due to their lack of experience and their habit of "cutting corners". This ends up costing YOU more money to fix. It's far better to choose a contractor based on experience and expertise first, and price second. Not the other way round!
